Furniture designs by John MakepeaceThe three main activities for which we need furniture are sitting, gathering and protecting things. Each presents distinct functional and structural issues. "My preferred medium is the wonderful variety of woods that grow in our woodlands and gardens. Whereas the more common woods are grown in commercial quantities, my interest is in using those indigenous trees of exceptional character, for example, holly, yew, mulberry, ripple ash, burr elm and bog oak." |
As a designer, my role now is comparable to that of a composer and conductor working with highly skilled instrumentalists to interpret 'the score'." John works with independent craftsmen who have been members of the Makepeace Studio over the last 30 years. > Commission a Makepeace. |
